When McCain speaks about war, you at least know you’re getting the perspective of a man who has battled his way through one. I don’t think any conservative believes that war is the first alternative when faced with international disagreements; but I also know that we are firmly opposed to the peacenik philosophy of "peace at any price." Faced with hardship and casualties McCain exudes a sense of empathy for those who have suffered loss, and calls for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to be honored.
On the flip side, Obama comes off more like a slick salesman, clever; but when it comes to understanding global realities, appearing naive and unintelligent. His idea of having lived through a great conflict is having had to endure his grandmother’s fears about young black men she didn’t know. Not to mention the "horrors" of having to live through a government sponsored Ivy League education. But then, he has the MSM in his pocket…

Steve,

The only people talking about the US going to war with Iran are the Iranian Government and the American left wing.  Iran has attacked us repeatedly in Iraq, is funding and sending troops into Iraq, harrassing US Naval Ships, attacking UK Naval Ships, is probably building nuclear devices, is openly supporting terrorism, and threatening to destroy Israel and the US.

While we are defending ourselves if/when attacked, we have not launched any military counter stikes, despite Iran’s overt and covert military actions.  Instead we are using other aspects of national power (Diplomacy, Informational, and Economic) to fight back against Iran’s agressions.  And for that, the left attacks the President.

I am not a McCain fan but despise the platforms of the left.  There are no conservatives (real ones, not your fantasies) running for President this year.  In fact, I do not think any have run in over two decades.  However, I will NEVER vote for anything the Democratic party currently offers so I either vote McCain or leave the presidential slot blank.  In that I envy your position as you will get either "far left" or "even farther left" socialists to choose from.  No matter who wins the Democratic nomination, you rest easily knowing you have a tried and true socialist to vote for and give leftist passes to.

My chief concern about McCain is that he will launch another war in Iran, to go with the ones in Iraq and Afghanistan.

He needs to emphasize that he’s not a war lover.

I come from a left perspective but I can appreciate what Orwell called the tough troops who keep the country free.

But he should be cheerful about that task ahead in Iraq.   America has been in tighter corners.

Obama and Clinton should probably make sure their own planning is presented as optimistic and realistic.  Obama it’s really anti either.  He’d be as bellicose as Bush if he ever attained the Presidency.
