Curt, I enjoy reading your writing immensely, but I need to ask you to correct your spelling of the name of the country of “Colombia.” It’s a very common mistake, made by lots of us “gringos,” but we need to keep in mind that “Columbia” is that sorry place on the Potomac with “District of” in front of it where we store our moldy congress. To a Colombian, seeing his country’s name misspelled is kind of like us seeing our country called the “United Stakes of America.” Keep up the good work!!

Just a hint for the easily swooned: Chavez stated he would also bring what amounted to “hope” and “change” to Venezuela.

All that changed was freedom, prosperity, and peace went away while “Red Hats” enforced Chavez’s will.

First off the Ecuadoreans did nothing to expel these Marxist from their precious soil. How Miraculous that in a heartbeat they send troops to the border after this incident?! This socilist country needs a bitch slap by Columbia!
Venezuela has NO military experience what so ever. The Colombians will defeat them and hopefully help the people have a new legit president. So much for Chavez’s help the poor. The suckers bought it!!! Marxist always crave supreme power. The decision of ones country can not be put on uneducated people. They have no idea what they will get. I suspect that an attack from Venezuela would be, for all intents and purposes, a training exercise for the Columbian military. They’re well trained and experienced; I’d guess that they would make short work of an attacking force.

bill-tb may have hit the nail on the head; the one sure way to mobilize a nation (and take their eyes off one’s own missteps) is to go to war.

Chavez’s politics and ideology are undeniably idiotic. He is ruining his country’s economy and driving it into unwinnable wars in his lust to be the next Castro/Lenin/Stalin/Che (just what that region does not want or need). His people have no food and have to wait in line, Soviet style, for basic items like bread. His oil rich economy will soon tank. He is now sending his poorly led, but “politically correct” indoctrinated forces, complete with “political officers”, to fight an unwinnable war for regional dominance against the veteran Columbian Army.

In short, politically, ideologically, and militarily, Chavez is a dangerous, reckless, and pathetic MORON. But other than than, he is considered an OK guy by ruthless dictators from Iran to North Korea.

Chavez is massing on the border in response to a cross-border raid into Ecuador. Even if something like this were to happen, the Venezuelan military is far outmatched by a better equipped and better trained Colombian military. And where Venezuela is massing, they would literally be fighting up hill.
