News From Around The World: UK

I know that many are, rightly, focused on the Primaries and elections. However, news is also happening around the world. Many of these events may not seem to affect those within the US. However, events in other nations show patterns. Patterns point to outcomes. Outcomes which will directly affect America.

Today’s post focuses on a series of stories from the UK

The first article is from The Sydney Morning Herald concerning honor killings among Islamics. Sadly, this cancer of honor killings extends to the US and Canada, but that is for another post.

The grainy video, taken on a mobile phone and played in a British court last year, shows a young woman lying on a bed, telling how her father had tried to kill her that day. She says he gave her some brandy, pulled the curtains and asked her to turn around, at which point she fled the house. It sounds far-fetched, but Banaz Mahmod knew what she was talking about. Within a month, the 19-year-old was dead.

Mahmod, an Iraqi Kurd whose family arrived in Britain as asylum seekers when she was 10, had been forced to marry a Kurdish man from the Midlands. But the marriage was a disaster and Mahmod fled to the family home in south London, saying her husband had raped her.

Back in London she fell in love with another man, Rahmat Sulemani, an Iranian Kurd who her family said was not a good enough Muslim. One day she kissed him on a street. A Kurdish bystander photographed the kiss on a mobile phone and showed it to her uncle, Ari Mahmod. He called a family meeting where it was decided the couple would be murdered.

Three months after she disappeared, Mahmod’s naked body was found in a case buried in a Birmingham backyard. The gang of young men her uncle had recruited to kill her had also raped and tortured her, and left the bootlace they used to strangle her around her neck.

Killed for a kiss by her own family. The family even hired a gang of “young men” to do it. There are stories about the “youth gangs” also, but that is for another post. Think about this. How many Western families sit around talking about how they will kill their children for a kiss (or anything else)?!? Yet those who despise their own Western Culture refuse to see these huge distinctions.

Also, this honor killing did not occur in the Middle East, Africa, or South-East Asia. It took place in London, England! As I said, another post will cover honor killings within the US and Canada. I can only deal with so much vomit in one day.

But wait… There’s more!

Unlike honor killing of the past, Britain is beginning to wake up. But is it too late? For many, it is.

Sentencing Mahmod’s uncle, father and one of the killers to a collective 60 years in jail, the judge told them Banaz had been an admirable woman who had made one mistake: she fell in love “with an accomplished man that you and you family thought was unsuitable. So to restore your family honour you decided that she should die.” The men’s standing in their community, the judge said, had been “more important than the happiness of your flesh and blood”.

The Banaz Mahmod case horrified Britain. It also showed how far the country has come in fighting the extraordinary phenomenon of honour killings – and how far it has to go.

At least the judge gets it. Too bad sentencing laws restricted the maximum he could give.

Police say 12 or 13 Britons – mainly women but very occasionally men – are the victims of honour killings each year. Activists say the figure dramatically understates the true number, and police agree: they are reviewing 117 cases of women who died in mysterious circumstances over the previous 15 years, many of which are thought to have been honour killings. (Police and activists dislike the term honour killings because it appears to excuse the crime, but it remains official use.)

The fact that young British Asian women (from Pakistani, Indian and Bangladeshi backgrounds) kill themselves at three times the national average for women of their age is also being studied. Could some of these deaths be hidden murders, or suicides imposed on a woman to restore her family’s honour?

I really dislike the politically correct term “Asian” when describing acts by militant Islamics. It deflects from the culture of fundemental Islam. The Japanese, Koreans, and non-Muslim “Asians” left honor killings long ago though China’s female infanticide could be argued as a ‘honor killing’. Pakistanis, Indians, Afghans, etc are not Asian. But the reality of fundamentalist Islam is covered up by the fantasies of political correctness and multiculturalism.

Britain is not alone: 47 Muslim women were killed in Germany between 2000 and 2006. The UN estimates that 5000 women and girls are victims of honour killings each year. But the British example illustrates how a culturally relativist form of multiculturalism can clash with women’s rights and how honour crimes, far from disappearing as migrants settle over generations into new countries, may even be on the rise.

In 2006 one in 10 of 500 young British Asians told the BBC that honour killings could be justified. Nazir Afzal of the Crown Prosecution Service and a leading prosecutor of honour crimes says that when he began work on such cases, “I thought it was an imported practice that would die out when the elder generation [of a migrant community] died. But many of the young people tell me shocking things.”

And that is the truly scary aspect: The second, third, and fourth generations of Islamic immigrants are not only refusing to assimilate into their new cultures, but reverting to fundamentalist Islam and forcing it onto their new culture.

The story goes on into details of honor killings, but I will end this portion with the last paragraph:

Afzal says communities must respond to such calls. “I have heard people say to me, ‘Don’t talk about this stuff because we are under attack. Don’t wash our dirty linen in public.’ But I have talked to loads of Muslim women and I can tell you that the greatest fear they have is not Islamophobia or being attacked by racists or being arrested on suspicion of terrorism. It is from within their own family.”

A phobia is an irrational fear in the face of evidence to the contrary. “Islamophobia” is not a phobia. It is the result of the rational studying the history of Islam and what Islam is currently doing in nations it is colonizing. I am all for the moderates in Islam reforming it. I just wish they would do it sooner.

Another story focuses on Jihadists within the UK who are well educated, affluent, and counter the myth that Jihad is caused by lack of education and opportunity. Jihad is an aspect of fundamentalist Islam, fully sanctioned by Islamic jurists, and endorsed by militant Islamic leaders. One can only hope the moderate Islamics reform Islam to remove these imperialist, genocidal aspects.

From the Daily Mail (UK): The dentist terrorist: British Muslim who planned to murder UK troops jailed

When he was stopped at Heathrow, dentist Sohail Qureshi claimed he was flying to Pakistan to celebrate the Muslim festival of Eid with his family.

The haul of weapons, cash and terror handbooks he was carrying however told a much more sinister story.

An Islamic extremist, the 30-year-old was in fact on his way to fight for the Taliban against British troops.

In an email to a contact before he left Qureshi wrote: “Pray that I kill many, brother. Revenge, revenge, revenge.”

Yesterday he became the first person to be convicted under tough new anti-terror laws.

However it emerged he could be out of jail in a year.

A Dentist. Think about that. An educated man going to jihad. But wait, as in the previous story, there is more!! However, this time, it is not good news.

The Old Bailey heard Qureshi was arrested in October 2006 carrying a night-vision scope, two metal batons and two rucksacks.

He also had medical supplies, CD roms containing extremist material and £9,000 in cash hidden in seven envelopes around his body.

Qureshi, who arrived in the UK from Russia in 2004, boasted he had been sent to Britain by Al Qaeda for terrorist fundraising.

He kept snapshots of himself holding an M16 rifle and an AK47, both thought to be have been taken in Pakistan when he attended a terror training camp.

He was also in email contact with Samina Malik, the so-called “lyrical terrorist” who wrote poems about her desire for martyrdom.

Good NVG Scopes are thousands of US dollars and with the UKs gun bans are difficult, and expensive for law-abbiding Brittons to buy (Criminals, as usual with anti-gun laws, have no problems). Maybe he got the “oppressed” religion discount?

Now, who is Samina Malik and what does she have to do with this?

Malik, a WHSmith employee who worked airside at Heathrow, was given a suspended jail sentence in November.

Shortly before his arrest, Qureshi, from Forest Gate, East London, asked her in an email: “Sis, I hope you get this email before anyone else. What is the system like at work? Is the checking still very harsh or have things calmed down a bit?”

Oh, she worked at the airport… Anyone else see a pattern? Militant, fundamentalist Islamics working in Medical professionals, airport security/maintenance/operations, and more. Feel safe?

When he was arrested, he was carrying a U.S. Marine and Canadian forces manual, a chapter from an autobiographical book he had written called My Father the Bombmaker, a copy of the Poisoner’s Handbook, a picture of him holding an M16 and “motivational Islamist material” stored on a CD.

Documents found on the hard drive in his luggage included field manuals on camouflage and how to conduct military operations in severe and cold winter conditions.

Qureshi had described his intentions to carry out terrorist activities on an extremist web forum.

Yep, standard stuff anyone could carry in their luggage…..

Stories go on and on… and on… and on…. and on….

BBC:
‘Thousands’ pose UK terror threat

There are at least 2,000 people in the UK who pose a threat to national security because of their support for terrorism, the head of MI5 has said.
Jonathan Evans said there had been a rise of 400 since November 2006.

He said children as young as 15 were being recruited for terrorist-related activity by al-Qaeda.

Telegraph:
Islamic preacher ‘recruited terrorists for Iraq’

As the audience at Regents Park Mosque in central London, joined in, he chanted: “Oh Allah support Sheikh Osama, Oh Allah destroy America.

“Destroy the kafir wherever they are. Let their blood run in the mountains of Afghanistan, let their women become widows, may their children become orphans, let them be bombed. Let death come to them by the hands of the mujahideen [holy fighters].”

Yep, Islam is the “Religion of ‘Peace'” alright… Peace for them, slavery for all others. (Note: Islam means “submission” Salaam means “peace”).

I really dislike the politically correct term “Asian” when describing acts by militant Islamics. It deflects from the culture of fundemental Islam. I’m not so sure that this is so much “political correctness”, as “cultural” in the British use of the term “Asian” in describing those from not only the far east, but also from Pakistan, India, etc.

And that is the truly scary aspect: The second, third, and fourth generations of Islamic immigrants are not only refusing to assimilate into their new cultures, but reverting to fundamentalist Islam and forcing it onto their new culture.

Sometimes, and this isn’t unique to Muslims, it seems like first generation immigrants who fled their countries because of persecutions by the government/situation in their native countries, appreciate the freedoms they enjoy in their new country (not always, of course). But the succeeding generations seem to revert back, romanticizing their roots. I suspect that some Muslim youths who perceive themselves persecuted for their religious/cultural affiliation, are ripe for al-Qaeda and Islamist propaganda and recruitment efforts that embraces them. Rebellious by nature, young people are often in search for identity, acceptance, and sometimes a need to be on an idealistic “crusade” against feelings of oppression from the establishment.

Couldn’t of said it better myself:

Bottom line is Islam needs to change and stop this “Dar Islam” vs “Dar Hab” mentality or they will force perpetual warfare as they have since their first armed expansions in the late 7th Century

The problem is I see no evidence that their culture is changing. We may be in for a long long haul of fighting this kind of extremism.

Curt.

It has already been 1,400 years of aggression by “Dar al Islam” against the “infidel” world. The Crusades were a defensive action, which unfortunately failed. I wonder what Charles Martel would say if he were alive today? Of course, we could add Cyrus to that and see him weep at what Persia has become.
