Site Redesign

The new Flopping Aces is here. Lots of bugs to work through tho, if you come across any please let me know.

UPDATE

We’ve worked through many of the bugs. Some of the new features is the video you see up on the top right corner of the main page. That is going to be the featured post which you can read by clicking the “Read rest of story”. We now have pagination (finally) so you can go back pages. Click the authors pictures to see all the posts done by that author. Plenty more new stuff to come.

P.S. I like the old “Wild, Wild, West” theme.

Robert Conrad and Ross Martin would be proud…

Granted there aren’t many of us around who remember the show well ;)

Very spiffy. Comment section easier. Just keep on keeping on. I enjoy my daily excursion on this site.

Other than the missing roll, and perhaps the time (I can’t remember what time zone you’re on, but judging by the time stamps here and my feed reader, it’s set at UTC -8, or Pacific Standard), looks pretty good.

WP does also break the feed address; if you’re handy with htaccess, you can set up a redirect for that. Otherwise, I’ve got a warning post on my blog to those that depend on the feed to change it.

Viewing in Firefox, when I look at some of the posts I see that apostrophes have been converted into a string of gibberish characters (I guess this is a unicode glitch of some sort). It’s most obvious in the Barack Hussein Obama post…

Like this Old West template. It’s almost I’ll be seeing a “Wanted – Dead or Alive” poster soon.

Faster page loads and powered by WordPress, you can’t go wrong there.

    Great desert color scheme.

    Two things to improve:

In the “Leave a reply” section the asterisks that one would expect to point to “required” don’t point to anything nearby.

When a comment is left, it’s not posted immediately, yet there is no “awaiting moderattion” message that is traditional under such circumstances.

There are asterisks next to Name and mail, is that what you mean?

You have to refresh the page to see your comment….

Avideditorla, it’s not quite down; it’s just that there is a new address for that feed because of the move to WordPress. It is http://feeds.feedburner.com/FloppingAces.

    Curt, yes those two asterisks.

May be worth a note to the effect that you need to refresh the page to see your own reply, otherwise it looks and feels like the moderated blogs.

I grew up with the re-runs of this show and my mom has DVDs of almost all the episodes (she doesn’t like the ones made after Ross Martin had to leave the show due to heart problems). It’s got some cheesy parts but all in all it’s great fun. Excellent choice!
