Why the creepy picture? Trying to remind people of all the 1st amendment suits Giuliani got NYC involved in?

Rudy, would be good on defense, foreign affairs, law and order but I am afraid of him on domestic social policy, most especially Second Amendment. Gotta go with Fred

Rudy will let the Amnesty pass. Why would any conservative endorse a candidate like that? Has the world gone mad?

    bbartlog,

That picture is so cute! I found it to be perfect for my “substantive” post.

    curt,

Mike’s America forced me to post this. Nag, nag, nag, like the proverbial elephant on your back.

    jim,

Rudy’s political answer is that he believes the decision on gun control should be left up to the state, much like the abortion issue. That’s good enough for me.

Rudy will let the Amnesty pass.

Oh? Has he said as much? Or are you spinning his spin? Does “comprehensive immigration reform” equate to “amnesty”? Or is it about seeking realistic solutions to a problem that we ignored for the last 20 years?

Why would any conservative endorse a candidate like that?

    Perhaps I’m no conservative?

Because on this issue, perhaps I’m not as far to the right of it, as you are? I’m no Tom Tancredo conservative on immigration; neither am I for “amnesty”. The status quo is unacceptable, and I do believe that we need to take into account that we share in the responsibility for having allowed the illegal issue to be virtually ignored for the last two decades. Rounding up 12-20 million illegals is not viable. I’m all for protecting our borders and building a fence, to stop the flow. But then we need compassionate, realistic solutions in how to go about dealing with/punishing those who came here illegally.

So why would I “endorse a conservative like that”? Because Giuliani is more than just what the anti-Giuliani conservatives want to malign him out to be.

Because Giuliani has the name-recognition and electability factor amongst Americans in both political camps, including the ever-so-important independents. Winning is more important than losing; and putting the most conservative candidate in the general election does us no good if that candidate does not have what it takes to win.

    Has the world gone mad?

Did you just wake up this morning? It’s been mad ever since I can remember.

  8. Ha! I’m just sitting here pulling the strings and making the Wordsmith puppet dance! :)

    Yeah, that’s me.

Word seemed reluctant to post it. So yeah, I did give him some “encouragement.”

Now, we’re expecting him to do a substantive post VERY SOON!

Let go of my strings, Mike! This was my substantive post! You should have seen the superficial one…

This is why I didn’t see the point in posting this.

Of course this isn’t a satisfactory answer for anyone that believes that the 2nd amendment does confer an individual right. We don’t let individual states violate the other parts of the bill of rights (freedom of press, religion, freedom from cruel and unusual punishment and so on). Taking this stance on the 2nd amendment is tantamount to saying it doesn’t exist (or buying the liberal argument that it doesn’t confer an individual right).
