Only the hippies in San Francisco would ignore a Federal ruling which blocked their attempts at Socialism:
San Francisco will move ahead Wednesday with plans to expand health
services for uninsured residents while appealing a federal court
ruling that, if upheld, could thwart its trailblazing effort to
achieve universal coverage.U.S. District Judge Jeffrey S. White last week struck down a
provision of the plan scheduled to go into effect Wednesday that would
have required employers with 20 or more employees to offer health
coverage or pay a fee to support the city program. Without the
mandate, city officials project that about one-third of the city’s
estimated 73,000 uninsured adults will be left without health
benefits.~~~Conceived by Mayor Gavin Newsom and launched in July at two pilot
clinics, the plan aims to enroll all residents without health
insurance, regardless of their income, immigration status or existing
medical conditions.
Apparently the Frisco plan is similiar to Schwarzenegger’s plan to force hospitals, smokers, and employers to pay for those who don’t have insurance. Not like there isn’t enough taxes in this state, why not tack on some more. Your a new business with a dozen employee’s just making ends meet? Screw you…you must pay.
More on the Judge’s ruling:
The requirement that all employers either provide insurance for their
workers or pay into a new state purchasing pool on a sliding scale of 1
percent to 6.5 percent of payroll based on company size is a key
funding element of the plan and the one that may provide biggest
obstacle to passage in light of White’s ruling, which San Francisco
intends to appeal.
Hopefully this is enough of an obstacle to block the whole damn thing. Businesses are leaving this State fast enough, why push more out?

San Francisco’s government isn’t that clever. They could actually hire those 73,000 people as some sort of reserve unit and then increase the taxes to pay for those people. They would have a job and insurance without having to work. For those under 16 years-old they could be set up in a state college where many have health insurance programs.
Maybe they could be paid neighborhood watch people, like the Chinese have done (paid people to spy on their neighborhood). San Francisco could get money back from Homeland Security.
The businesses wouldn’t care are much since it wouldn’t be about them and the Federal government can’t tell the city not to hire somebody or not put somebody in college.

I am never quite sure exactly what “socialized medicine” means ?? Is it like the VA ? Or Medicare ? Is making sure that ALL children receive excellent medical care “socialized medicine” ?
Aren’t there already many people receiving “socialized medicine ” ? How do those people already receiving “socialized medicine” feel about having it completely eliminated ?
When our elected leaders vote themselves and others out of “socialized medicine” then I may review my own position.
Sad thing is there used to be a free clinic in the Haight Ashbury that was not to the best of my knowledge tax-funded.
Sadly time and age have eroded the memories and I was never a patron in any sense of the word–my only contact was correspondence with a Doctor there through the late lamented WELL.
John,
As an active duty Army officer, I can tell you socialized medicine (as Tricare is) is TERRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The VA system is pathetic, medicare is full of fraud waste and abuse, madicade is mismanages and NO ONE gets good care.
“Is making sure that ALL children receive excellent medical care “socialized medicine” ?”
No, it is not. In countries which have this signle payer system, the care is horrible.
“When our elected leaders vote themselves and others out of “socialized medicine” then I may review my own position.”
You mean like rich Canadian leftists who come to Michigan and pay for their care here?
You might want to start reviewing you position.
