Unless Ron Suskind can quote the briefer or cite a non anonymous source, it's just a claim, but it's also moot. 15 of the 19 hijackers were flagged and/or stopped by security. The problem was that the security was looking for bombs not suicidal hijackers. I also LOVE the part where failed counter-terrorism czar Clarke whines about how there was no cabinet meetings re intel warning. Brilliant. All the guy's doing is complaining that he should have still been a powerful cabinet level guy when the fact is that alerting the Secretary of Labor, the Secretary of Education, notifying the Department of the Interior etc (ie the full cabinet) would've been useless. The only people that needed to be involved were the intel agencies, and since the CENTRAL intelligence agency provided the brief, the intel was intrinsically disseminated. When W asked the FBI and CIA what was being done, he was told there were 70 investigations under way. Ok. That's more than an previously (far more than any the Clinton Admin ever conducted). Basically, W did what he was supposed to do. It was the system that failed. The problem with people aiming to point fingers and blame at W rather than the systemic flaws that the 911 Commission AND the joint Congressional inquiry found as well is that by pointing fingers at W, it suggests that a different butt in the chair behind the desk at 1600 PA would've prevented the attacks, and since a different butt HAD been in that chair, it's apparent that such politically partisan spin is both useless, and contrary to fact.

Nice try lutton, but you're Bushbash attempt fawns in the face of history. Maybe if the 911 Commission and other investigations had found the President negligent, you'd have a grain of sand to stand upon, but instead the various investigations (bi-partisan, independent, etc) found that Presidents Clinton and Bush both failed, and that even had their failures not occurred it's likely the attacks would have still succeeded.

Nah, if you want a real bad guy, a real failure, a real culprit...blame the murderers.

you mean responding like this:

August 6, 2001: Bush Tells CIA Regarding Bin Laden Warning, ‘You’ve Covered Your Ass, Now’

Supposedly, just after a CIA briefer presents President Bush the later infamous PDB (Presidential Daily Briefing) entitled “Bin Laden Determined to Strike in US”(see August 6, 2001), Bush tells the briefer, “You’ve covered your ass, now.”

I snarfed coffee at this one:

Even Pelosi Is Disappointed in Congress

By CHARLES BABINGTON â€" 13 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) â€" Add House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the list of Americans who think Congress is doing a lousy job.

Hours after touting the Democratic-controlled Congress' achievements at a ceremony on the Capitol steps Thursday, Pelosi confessed that she would give the legislative body low marks if a pollster asked her.

"I know that Congress has low approval ratings," Pelosi, D-Calif., said at her weekly news conference. "I don't approve of Congress, because we haven't done anything that â€" we haven't been effective in ending the war in Iraq. And if you asked me in a phone call, as ardent a Democrat as I am, I would disapprove of Congress as well."

Not surprisingly, Pelosi said President Bush and his Republican allies are mostly to blame. She noted that Bush has vetoed Democratic-led efforts to wind down the war, expand a children's health program and broaden stem cell research.

In the October AP-Ipsos poll, Americans gave Congress a 22 percent approval rating, the lowest score since the poll began in late 2003.

Pelosi, who became speaker in January, found some rays of sunlight among the clouds. She cited a new Pew Research Center survey in which 44 percent of those polled said the Democratic Party can better manage the federal government, while 32 percent chose the Republican Party.

"I'm very proud of what we have done," Pelosi said. Her Capitol steps ceremony touted a higher minimum wage, lower student loan interest rates and a new law tightening lobbying and ethics regulations.

The key to boosting her party's image, she said, is "to get through the fog of war, because there is no question that the war in Iraq has eclipsed much of what we have done."

It appears the most rabid democrat now realizes the democrat leadership of congress is worthless, along with most of the democrats in congress. They're only concerned with their personal political power and the he** with the American people.
