The Lefts New Drummer Boy

Loading

The man who led coalition forces in Iraq from 2003 through 2004, the man who was in charge during Abu Ghraib and canned for it, now finds fault with how Bush conducted the war.  What a surprise:

In a sweeping indictment of the four-year effort in Iraq, the former top American commander called the Bush administration’s handling of the war incompetent andwarned that the United States was “living a nightmare with no end in sight.”

In one of his first major public speeches since leaving the Army in late 2006, retired Lt. Gen. Ricardo S. Sanchez blamed the administration for a “catastrophically flawed, unrealistically optimistic war plan” and denounced the current “surge” strategy as a “desperate” move that will not achieve long-term stability.

“After more than fours years of fighting, America continues its desperate struggle in Iraq without any concerted effort to devise a strategy that will achieve victory in that war-torn country or in the greater conflict against extremism,” Mr. Sanchez said, at a gathering here of military reporters and editors.

But his role as commander in Iraq during the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal leaves General Sanchez vulnerable to criticism that that he is shifting the blame from himself and exacting revenge against an administration that replaced him as the top commander in the aftermath of the scandal and declined to nominate him for a fourth star, forcing his retirement.

Though he was cleared of wrongdoing in the abuse matter by an Army investigation, he nonetheless became a symbol, along with officials like L. Paul Bremer III , the chief administrator in Iraq, of the ineffective American leadership early in the occupation.

Questioned by reporters after his speech, he included the military and himself among those who made mistakes in Iraq, citing the failure to insist on a better post-invasion stabilization plan.

But his main criticism was leveled at the Bush administration, which he said he said has failed to mobilize the entire United States government, other than the military, to contribute meaningfully to reconstructing and stabilizing Iraq.

The man did not deserve a fourth star because his leadership of the armed forces during his time there was terrible.  Is it any wonder why he is now talking trash?  The surge is working, the situation in Iraq is improving, and now this man wants to portray Iraq as a failure, and blame it all on Bush.  It’s not a failure, it’s working.  And any good leader understands when a tactic doesn’t work he adapts and changes.  Bush understood this and canned Sanchez.  After some fits and starts he found Petreaus and the rest is history.

To find Grant Lincoln had to go through the likes of McClellan.

That is a good leader.

Sanchez obviously was a capable leader but not up to the task at hand and was replaced.  He feels insulted so now goes on the offensive with this baloney.

Before long we will see this man, the man in charge during Abu Ghraib which the left cite incessantly, become the lefts new drummer boy.  Now that will be ironic.

You know, sooner rather than later there’ll be no generals left from the Bush’s ‘I defer to our exemplary men on the ground’ faction that he put in charge during this war…and then who do you belittle? This is getting a little long in the tooth, you know the pretty much non-stop parade of military men who are fed up with the way this thing is being run, and I’m not even debating our presence there, just the growing number of military men (Generals no less) who are speaking out regarding the mis-handling of this situation.

Powerline has what your NYT article and the WaPo for that matter failed to print. The scathing rebuke Sanchez gave the media over it’s Iraq war coverage.

He may be a disgruntled ex-general but on the media he’s spot on.

President Bush had to work with the garbage left over from the KA Klington administration. Generals, and all officers, were not promoted on ability, other than the ability to bend over and kiss a**. Now the are showing their spite because they were so inept they couldn’t do the job. Great bunch of fools. It’s easy to pick out the losers. Slimey General Clark was fired by Slick Willie but continues to hang around and change Shrillary’s tampons. He has something on her and Slick or he would have been one of the over 50 to die by six gunshots to the back of the head and have it declared a suicide.

Marc, from your Powerlineblog link, here is the first half of General Ricardo Sanchez’s speech with capitalization adjusted and some spelling errors corrected. Any introduced errors are regretted. The purpose of the modification is to aid reading comprehension and quoting.

Good afternoon ladies and gentlemen

Some of you may not believe this but I am glad to be here. When Sig asked me if I would consider addressing you there was no doubt that I should come into the lion’s den. This was important because I have firmly believed since Desert Shield that it is necessary for the strength of our democracy that the military and the press corps maintain a strong, mutually respectful and enabling relationship. This continues to be problematic for our country, especially during times of war. One of the greatest military correspondents of our time, Joe Galloway, made me a believer when he joined the 24th Infantry Division during Desert Storm.

Today, I will attempt to do two things – first I will give you my assessment of the military and press relationship and then I will provide you some thoughts on the current state of our war effort. As all of you know I have a wide range of relationships and experiences with our nations military writers and editors. There are some in your ranks who I consider to be the epitome of journalistic professionalism – Joe Galloway, Thom Shanker, Sig Christensen, and John Burns immediately come to mind. they exemplify what America should demand of our journalists – tough reporting that relies upon integrity, objectivity and fairness to give accurate and thorough accounts that strengthen our freedom of the press and in turn our democracy. On the other hand, unfortunately, I have issued ultimatums to some of you for unscrupulous reporting that was solely focused on supporting your agenda and preconceived notions of what our military had done. I also refused to talk to the European Stars and Stripes for the last two years of my command in Germany for their extreme bias and single minded focus on Abu Gharaib.

Let me review some of the descriptive phrases that have been used by some of you that have made my personal interfaces with the press corps difficult:

“dictatorial and somewhat dense”,

“not a strategic thought”,

liar,

“does not get it” and

the most inexperienced LTG.

In some cases I have never even met you, yet you feel qualified to make character judgments that are communicated to the world. My experience is not unique and we can find other examples such as the treatment of Secretary Brown during Katrina. This is the worst display of journalism imaginable by those of us that are bound by a strict value system of selfless service, honor and integrity. Almost invariably, my perception is that the sensationalistic value of these assessments is what provided the edge that you seek for self aggrandizement or to advance your individual quest for getting on the front page with your stories! As I understand it, your measure of worth is how many front page stories you have written and unfortunately some of you will compromise your integrity and display questionable ethics as you seek to keep America informed. This is much like the intelligence analysts whose effectiveness was measured by the number of intelligence reports he produced. For some, it seems that as long as you get a front page story there is little or no regard for the “collateral damage” you will cause. Personal reputations have no value and you report with total impunity and are rarely held accountable for unethical conduct.

Given the near instantaneous ability to report actions on the ground, the responsibility to accurately and truthfully report takes on an unprecedented importance. The speculative and often uninformed initial reporting that characterizes our media appears to be rapidly becoming the standard of the industry. An arab proverb states – “Four things come not back: the spoken word, the spent arrow, the past, the neglected opportunity.” Once reported, your assessments become conventional wisdom and nearly impossible to change. Other major challenges are your willingness to be manipulated by “high level officials” who leak stories and by lawyers who use hyperbole to strengthen their arguments. Your unwillingness to accurately and prominently correct your mistakes and your agenda driven biases contribute to this corrosive environment. All of these challenges combined create a media environment that does a tremendous disservice to America. Over the course of this war tactically insignificant events have become strategic defeats for America because of the tremendous power and impact of the media and by extension you the journalist. In many cases the media has unjustly destroyed the individual reputations and careers of those involved. We realize that because of the near real time reporting environment that you face it is difficult to report accurately. In my business one of our fundamental truths is that “The first report is always wrong.” Unfortunately, in your business “the first report” gives Americans who rely on the snippets of CNN, if you will, their “truths” and perspectives on an issue. As a corollary to this deadline driven need to publish “initial impressions or observations” versus objective facts there is an additional challenge for us who are the subject of your reporting. When you assume that you are correct and on the moral high ground on a story because we have not respond to questions you provided is the ultimate arrogance and distortion of ethics. One of your highly respected fellow journalists once told me that there are some amongst you who “feed from a pig’s trough.” If that is who I am dealing with then I will never respond otherwise we will both get dirty and the pig will love it. This does not mean that your story is accurate.

I do not believe that this is what our forefathers intended. The code of ethics for the society of professional journalists states:
…public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty. Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist’s credibility

The basic ethics of a journalist that calls for:

1. Seeking truth,

2. Providing fair and comprehensive account of events and issues

3. Thoroughness and honesty

All are victims of the massive agenda driven competition for economic or political supremacy. The death knell of your ethics has been enabled by your parent organizations who have chosen to align themselves with political agendas. What is clear to me is that you are perpetuating the corrosive partisan politics that is destroying our country and killing our servicemembers who are at war.

My assessment is that your profession, to some extent, has strayed from these ethical standards and allowed external agendas to manipulate what the American public sees on TV, what they read in our newspapers and what they see on the Web. For some of you, just like some of our politicians, the truth is of little to no value if it does not fit your own preconceived notions, biases and agendas.

It is astounding to me when I hear the vehement disagreement with the military’s forays into information operations that seek to disseminate the truth and inform the Iraqi people in order to counter our enemy’s blatant propaganda. As I assess various media entities, some are unquestionably engaged in political propaganda that is uncontrolled. There is no question in my mind that the strength our democracy and our freedoms remain linked to your ability to exercise freedom of the press – I adamantly support this basic foundation of our democracy and completely supported the embedding of media into our formations up until my last day in uniform. The issue is one of maintaining professional ethics and standards from within your institution. Military leaders must accept that these injustices will happen and whether they like what you print or not they must deal with you and enable you, if you are an ethical journalist.

Finally, I will leave this subject with a question that we must ask ourselves–who is responsible for maintaining the ethical standards of the profession in order to ensure that our democracy does not continue to be threatened by this dangerous shift away from your sacred duty of public enlightenment?

Time to declare him a “phony soldier”
Citizen journalists to investigate his counter tops.

Time to declare him a “phony general”
and investigate his counter tops.

This post is truly the definition of fascism.

When Betrayus finally admits what everyone else already knows, wingnuts like you will be denouncing him, too.

Meanwhile – when are you enlisting?

Oh, dave! The chickenhawk slur is s-o-o 2005. BTW, I enlisted in 1973 and served 30 years. How about you?

I enlisted in 1973 and served 30 years. How about you?

Since I don’t support this war (and didn’t support Vietnam), it really doesn’t matter, does it?

If you actively support sending in your army to fight a cause you “believe” in, you should have the courage of your convictions and join up.

Sorry if that doesn’t mean anything to you and the rest of your fascist brigade.

Since I don’t support this war (and didn’t support Vietnam), it really doesn’t matter, does it?

Just shows how retarded you tbogg readers are. You asked when he was enlisting, he served 30 years, and then say it doesn’t matter.

Just retarded.

Think again once again the press or MSM lies?
DON’T BE SO QUICK TO JUDGE. and make sure you judge the right guy.

what he really said.

AMERICA HAS SENT OUR SOLDIERS OFF TO WAR AND THEY MUST BE SUPPORTED AT ALL COSTS UNTIL WE ACHIEVE VICTORY OR UNTIL OUR POLITICAL LEADERS DECIDE TO BRING THEM HOME. OUR POLITICAL AND MILITARY LEADERS OWE THE SOLDIER ON THE BATTLEFIELD THE STRATEGY, THE POLICIES AND THE RESOURCES TO WIN ONCE COMMITTED TO WAR. AMERICA HAS NOT BEEN FULLY COMMITTED TO WIN THIS WAR. AS THE MILITARY COMMANDERS ON THE GROUND HAVE STATED SINCE THE SUMMER OF 2003, THE U.S. MILITARY ALONE CANNOT WIN THIS WAR. AMERICA MUST MOBILIZE THE INTERAGENCY AND THE POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC ELEMENTS OF POWER, WHICH HAVE BEEN ABJECT FAILURES TO DATE, IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE VICTORY. OUR NATION HAS NOT FOCUSED ON THE GREATEST CHALLENGE OF OUR LIFETIME. THE POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC ELEMENTS OF POWER MUST GET BEYOND THE POLITICS TO ENSURE THE SURVIVAL OF AMERICA. PARTISAN POLITICS HAVE HINDERED THIS WAR EFFORT AND AMERICA SHOULD NOT ACCEPT THIS. AMERICA MUST DEMAND A UNIFIED NATIONAL STRATEGY THAT GOES WELL BEYOND PARTISAN POLITICS AND PLACES THE COMMON GOOD ABOVE ALL ELSE. TOO OFTEN OUR POLITICIANS HAVE CHOSEN LOYALTY TO THEIR POLITICAL PARTY ABOVE LOYALTY TO THE CONSTITUTION BECAUSE OF THEIR LUST FOR POWER. OUR POLITICIANS MUST REMEMBER THEIR OATH OF OFFICE AND RECOMMIT THEMSELVES TO SERVING OUR NATION AND NOT THEIR OWN SELF-INTERESTS OR POLITICAL PARTY. THE SECURITY OF AMERICA IS AT STAKE AND WE CAN ACCEPT NOTHING LESS. ANYTHING SHORT OF THIS IS UNQUESTIONABLY DERELICTION OF DUTY.

Yes things like the Democrats and Turkey now ask why would they do that. And then ask why would the American Pople let them get away with it?
DON’T BE SO QUICK TO JUDGE. and make sure you judge the right guy.

“But his main criticism was leveled at the Bush administration, which he said he said has failed to mobilize the entire United States government, other than the military, to contribute meaningfully to reconstructing and stabilizing Iraq.”

[repeat]

“…failed to mobilize the entire United States government, other than the military, to contribute meaningfully…”

Yeah, I fully agree. So does W. Fact of the matter is that the US military went in, did a great job, and then has been waiting in Iraq for someone else to come do THEIR jobs, and while some have there certainly has not been enough. The State Dept above all has completely come up short of expectations. There’s nothing wrong with admitting that. If the DOS had gone in with someone better than Garner, and had done the job right away, the US could’ve left years ago. Why didn’t they? Because DOS was run by doves and anti-Bush Admin folk who should have been replaced with supporters of the Admin rather than opponents. Additionally, while the US military has millions of people brave enough to go into harm’s way to do their job, the State Department doesn’t.

No, I’m totally fine with saying that one of the biggest failures in Iraq was not getting all the govt to get involved. I’ll go further and say that the even bigger problem was not getting the entire nation involved-specifically allowing Democrats from (starting with Howard Dean in May 02) to work AGAINST success in the war. Their entire political effort for the past five years has been to get the American people to not support a war. Well, newsflash, if you don’t support it, it ain’t gonna succeed. How’s that work? I want a new house, but I’m not gonna do anything to get one, and when I don’t get it I’m gonna bitch and whine that it’s someone else’s fault. Yeah, that’s gonna make things happen.

No, I think the biggest failure was in allowing the debate over the war to be made a wedge issue by the efforts of some subversive Democrats who have worked to make America fail as a means of keeping their their political careers alive-or even helping them thrive. Democrats have never been really against the war, never taken direct action to prevent, stop, or end it, but their indirect efforts have been just strong enough to make sure that it’s incredibly hard to succeed.

America will succeed in Iraq now (now that it’s too late for a premature evacuation), but it will be in spite of efforts from Democratic Party leaders rather than because of them.

Make no bones about it, Democrats deliberately divided this nation. President Bush should not have allowed them to do that. I’m not sure he (or anyone) really had that capability though.

lEFTIES make me sick

Catherine, I did think before I judged him. He was sacked for a reason and many of the faults he pinned on Bush came from his HQ seeing as how he ran the damn thing.

I’m glad he vilified the press, but it doesn’t change the fact that he said there has been, nor will there be, any progress in Iraq. That is a bold faced lie.

Scott,

“…failed to mobilize the entire United States government, other than the military, to contribute meaningfully…”

Yeah, I fully agree. So does W. Fact of the matter is that the US military went in, did a great job, and then has been waiting in Iraq for someone else to come do THEIR jobs, and while some have there certainly has not been enough. The State Dept above all has completely come up short of expectations. There’s nothing wrong with admitting that.

Agree completely. In war there will always be mistakes made, the great leaders are those who recognize this and change their tactics.

America will succeed in Iraq now (now that it’s too late for a premature evacuation), but it will be in spite of efforts from Democratic Party leaders rather than because of them.

Amazing isn’t it? To think we not only had to fight the enemy in Afghanistan and Iraq but our own countrymen and women to succeed in a fight for our future survival.

Amazing.

You see I remember!

Oh, Curt, you have been saying we are winning for so long, and it has never been true. When are you going to realize that Lucy is going to pull the football away every time? Doesn’t it strike you as a bit odd that just about everyone who has been involved with this clusterfuck criticizes it when they get out of the Bush orbit?

Ron grow a set.
you are one of the stupid lefties I hate.

I agree he was the wrong guy and should have been fired I say read his speach see where he puts the blame Congress the Press and State he leaves himself out where he should not have. We fight the fight unlike no others because of PC crap

Don’t think this guy will be making the rounds it is another hit and run by the MSM

what he said?

SINCE 2003, THE POLITICS OF WAR HAVE BEEN CHARACTERIZED BY PARTISANSHIP AS THE REPUBLICAN AND DEMOCRATIC PARTIES STRUGGLED FOR POWER IN WASHINGTON. NATIONAL EFFORTS TO DATE HAVE BEEN CORRUPTED BY PARTISAN POLITICS THAT HAVE PREVENTED US FROM DEVISING EFFECTIVE, EXECUTABLE, SUPPORTABLE SOLUTIONS. AT TIMES, THESE PARTISAN STRUGGLES HAVE LED TO POLITICAL DECISIONS THAT ENDANGERED THE LIVES OF OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS ON THE BATTLEFIELD. THE UNMISTAKABLE MESSAGE WAS THAT POLITICAL POWER HAD GREATER PRIORITY THAN OUR NATIONAL SECURITY OBJECTIVES. OVERCOMING THIS STRATEGIC FAILURE IS THE FIRST STEP TOWARD ACHIEVING VICTORY IN IRAQ – WITHOUT BIPARTISAN COOPERATION WE ARE DOOMED TO FAIL. THERE IS NOTHING GOING ON TODAY IN WASHINGTON THAT WOULD GIVE US HOPE.

IF WE SUCCEED IN CRAFTING A BIPARTISAN STRATEGY FOR VICTORY, THEN AMERICA MUST HOLD ALL NATIONAL AGENCIES ACCOUNTABLE FOR DEVELOPING AND EXECUTING THE POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC INITIATIVES THAT WILL BRING ABOUT STABILITY, SECURITY, POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC HOPE FOR ALL IRAQIS. THAT HAS NOT BEEN SUCCESSFUL TO DATE.

CONGRESS MUST SHOULDER A SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FAILURE SINCE THERE HAS BEEN NO FOCUSED OVERSIGHT OF THE NATIONS POLITICAL AND ECONOMIC INITIATIVES IN THIS WAR. EXHORTATIONS, ENCOURAGEMENTS, INVESTIGATIONS, STUDIES AND DISCUSSIONS WILL NOT PRODUCE SUCCESS -THIS APPEARS TO BE THE NATION’S ONLY

again it has been the Democrats that have divided the American people.

I wonder if we’ll look back on the MoveOn ad as bait that the wingnuts wished they hadn’t grabbed. They’ve now made it pretty darn hard for themselves to use the tactics that they love to use – the smear – on generals who speak out about the administration’s policies. I mean, they’ll still use it (the “phony soldiers” schtick by Rush just weeks after the Petraeus flair-up shows that they aren’t too bright about these things), but it’ll only make them look stupider and stupider.

Since I don’t support this war (and didn’t support Vietnam), it really doesn’t matter, does it?

Yet you support the war in Afghanistan and the hunt for OBL.

Why aren’t you at your local recruiter’s office asking to be sent there, coward?

Ace is right–everyone who supported the idea of actually capturing Osama bin laden after 9/11 should have done exactly what the president asked us all to do when he put the whole country on a war footing, raised taxes to supply our troops and get them the armor they needed, and demanded that every able bodied man and woman sign on for a long, grinding, difficult war on two fronts.

What’s that you say? He just asked us to go shopping? He cut taxes on the wealthiest and failed to prepare Walter Reed and the VA for the onslaught of injured national guard and regular troops? He turned the defence of this country over to overpriced and unregulated mercenary companies like Blackwater? He forced gays and lesbians out of the armed forces and out of our translation corps? He tried to pay warlords to capture bin laden and then dropped the ball and let bin laden flee into Pakistan? He failed to address the saudi component of the terrorist networks for fear our oil would be cut off?

Oh…never mind…I thought we had real leadership after 9/11 and I just did what I was told to do. If its not working out so well (but I thought, according to Aces, it was all going swimmingly?) then it sure isn’t my fault.

aimai

Good to see sanchez admit he screwed it uo. Thank god that “Betrayus” has repaired the damage he did.

Thank god BUsh has prosecuted the war on Terror with competence and vision. He could have just liberated Afghanistan and said, “we are done” while Hussein continued to make WMD and the middle east sunk further into the 7th century.

Things may have been easier if that liberal dirt bag clintoon had not broken the military, underfunded new weapons systems, allowed Walter Reed to disintegarte to unacceptable levels, initiated his divisive gays in the military policy etc.

Since I don’t support this war (and didn’t support Vietnam), it really doesn’t matter, does it?

Racist attitude, democracy and freedom for me, not for brown or yellow asians, they are yuckky and stupid.

You do realise 9/11 was done by SAUDIS, dont you. Why do you suppoert the war in AFGHANISATN then

I see that there are a lot of assholes on here.

I refer mostly to grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, Catherine, and especially scrapiron, who may be the dumbest wingnut I’ve ever encountered in my life. What a fucking clown show you guys are.

Uh, but their leader was based in AFGHANISTAN (can you spell?) so can you grasp such a simple point yet?

He cut taxes on the wealthiest

Hilarious.
Read much?

ew data released by the IRS today offers interesting insights into the distributional spread of the federal income tax burden, new analysis by the Tax Foundation shows. The new data shows that the top-earning 25% of taxpayers (AGI over $62,068) earned 67.5% of the nation’s income, but they paid more than four out of every five dollars collected by the federal income tax (86%). The top 1% of taxpayers (AGI over $364,657) earned approximately 21.2% of the nation’s income (as defined by AGI), yet paid 39.4% of all federal income taxes. That means the top 1% of tax returns paid about the same amount of federal individual income taxes as the bottom 95% of tax returns.

raised taxes to supply our troops and get them the armor they needed

Right because remember no spending could ever be cut. Ever.

You people are a joke.

Thank you The_Ace, but if we are a joke, you are the punchline.

but if we are a joke, you are the punchline.

Relevance?
None

Facts?
None.

Shocking, I know…

You are a very stupid person.

Just returned from another beautiful day outside Chester County Courthouse – where I had the opportunity to speak with some of the ‘peace protesters’ who gather there every Saturday.

Not ONE of them could define what victory looks like, what victory means to them. If they cannot define the parameters of victory, how can they understand peace?

Their response to my questioning their moral stand on peace was to ask me when I was going to join up and serve in Iraq.

SIGH…

Skye: You might as well ask these peaceniks what “peace” means.

To them it’s just the abscence of any American defense against the evil that would overwhelm us in a heartbeat were it not for the steadfastness, patriotism and resolve of those who understand what is at stake.

Oh… and Sasha? If you’re still running around out there in loony land, perhaps you can point me to the comments where right wingers were going to call Sanchez a “phony general.”

And perhaps you wouldn’t mind explaining to me what you thought of Sanchez’s comments regarding the media’s role in distorting what we are doing in Iraq?

I think what we have here is the PHONY JOURNALISM that distorts Sanchez’s comments in the same way they have distorted all the news about Iraq.

Before long we will see this man, the man in charge during Abu Ghraib which the left cite incessantly, become the lefts new drummer boy. Now that will be ironic.

Bingo!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVlVPKRAWuo

I caught the clip of Karen mentioning Sanchez right before one of her groupies decided to exercise the liberal meaning of ‘free speech’ by attempting to block my ability to video Karen by placing his ‘peace’ sign in front of my miniDV.

Skye: Promise that if you ever get into a mud wrestling match with Karen you’ll have someone capture it on video!

You gotta watch out for those “peace” protesters. They often turn violent.

Blix: Iraq Violates U.N. Arms Ban
NewsMax.com Wires
Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003
BRUSSELS, Belgium — U.N. chief weapons inspector Hans Blix said today that Iraq had clearly violated a U.N. arms ban by importing illegal material that could be used to build nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.
Speaking after briefing senior EU officials, Blix said: “We have found things that have been illegally imported, even in 2001 and 2002. The question of whether they relate to weapons of mass destruction requires further inspection.”
Blix, due to brief French President Jacques Chirac and British premier Tony Blair Friday before traveling to Baghdad, said the message he was taking to Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was that the situation is “very tense and very dangerous.”

OF course this was before we went into Iraq? Look at the date.

It looks like that. And no, not everyone criticizes it-everyone covers their ass. It’s the same in every administration or are you forgetting the comments in the tell-alls from Richard Clarke, George Tenet, and the other bi-partisan/dual admin holdovers?

TRUTH BE TOLD:
“Racist attitude, democracy and freedom for me, not for brown or yellow asians, they are yuckky and stupid.
You do realise 9/11 was done by SAUDIS, dont you. Why do you suppoert the war in AFGHANISATN then”

Saudis who (pg93 911 Commission Rpt) waged a holy war on the US because of Clinton’s war on Iraq (among many excuses for their murders).

I’m still surprised at all the complainers who don’t support the war now. The fact is that you can’t do anything to end it, so all you’re doing is complaining about the efforts of American soldiers to bring peace and security to the region as well as their efforts to hunt down Al Queda. Yeah, those are such awful causes? [rolleyes]

While General Sanchez’s scathing accounts of the Bush administration’s prosecution of the war may be ill advised while American soldiers are in harms way, his out-right lambasting of the mainstream media’s total misrepresentation and lack of factual reporting in the theater (THAT THE MEDIA OMITTED PURPOSELY) is a story in itself.

How can the people of this country find out what the truth is by reading what is supposed to be our main source of information when the MSM uses their editors as pawns to fit any agenda-driven (insert your own adjective and noun here). I will just come out and say what needs to be said:

“TO THE THOSE JOURNALIST AND PUBLISHERS WHO FIT INTO THIS STORY, YOU’RE NOTHING BUT A PACK OF LIARS THAT HAVE DISTORTED EVERY ACCOUNT OF WHAT WAS THE VERY BEST THIS NATION HAS INTENDED TO RIGHT THE INJUSTICE’S AGAINST US——I NO LONGER QUESTION YOUR INTEGRITY, YOUR ETHICAL STANDARDS, OR YOUR PATRIOTISM—–YOU HAVE LOST THEM ALL BY YOUR SHAMEFUL ACTIONS AND PITIFUL EXCUSE FOR WHAT WE USED TO CALL JOURNALISM.”………ROVIN

Right on Rovin!

Catherine said: “Seems that the lefties have their heads buried in the sand which will just get your butt shot off.”

Alot of them seem to have their head up their butts, which will be even more injurious when shot!

rb: I hope whoever buys that letter burns it in public!

Not suprising Mike, Lefties can’t see the forest for the trees. I betcha that none of the Senators will step up and match the contribution. It is a sad day when our leaders waste time denouncing a private citizen. Pitiful excuse for statesmen.

1/3 of the senators CAN’T (or don’t dare) match the contributions since they’re running for President and need the money to fund their campaigns-not worthless causes their eyes (ie, causes that are worth less than they campaigns)

Dave,

I enlisted in 1993. Earned my commission in 1996. Am still serving.

Let’s see how long you stand behind Petreaus when he comes to the same conclusion that the other generals have come to. Your “war” is a disaster, your “president” is a disgrace and your party is looking at a world-class thrashing come November ’08.

Flippity-floop

Catherine. Turn your friggin’ CAPS off, you raving loonie.

To the author:

Don’t y’all know generals are “off limits” now? Now stop, or you’ll be forever labled as a troop-hating commie.

Sorry, it’s your rules…

Kind of a drag that the War is based on a completely Illegit Premise that Saddam Hussein was an immediate threat to the security of the United States.

Everything else is just lipsticking the pig of this Unjust War.

And it will be forever.

There is not really any debate: forever, the War will be Illegitimate, regardless of whether Iraq emerges as a successful Democracy or not.

Shame on those who would commit our Beloved United States of America to such folly.

The President should apologize tomorrow for what he has brought upon Iraq.

And only then will anybody be able to begin trying to fix the rotten horrible mess bush made there.

“After some fits and starts he found Petreaus and the rest is history. ”

Yes we are still there with no end in sight.

this site is weak…

I suggest that those who think this war is going swimmingly pick their heroes carefully. It is getting difficult to name a departing member of Bush Co. who has not lashed out at this administration. The very same people/groups who defended Bush, Rumsfeld and Sanchez when things were obviously wrong at Abu Ghraib now have to drop their defense of Sanchez because he spoke out.

As mentioned by others, the very same scapegoating will happen with the hero du jour, Petreaus, and then you will have to go looking for a new hero. I also suggest you hurry up and pick your definition of “winning” this war, since all other guesses have been wrong.

All administration are corrupt to some degree, but when much of your party is is jail or facing charges (in which case they stay low and hope for a pardon) and almost everyone who has left or been ousted have nothing good to say about this administration, you have to at least wonder.

Worst. President. Ever.
