Yesterday 10/10, I received an automated call from, Pol Protect Fund (the tag of the caller ID), some group that is "pleading for the children". They wanted to me to urge my Congress woman to vote to over ride the veto of SCHIP. Using their directions (press #5 ) I was patched through the office of my Congress woman Judy Biggert -the 13th District of ILL-IN-Noise.

Imagine my surprise to learn that Rep. Biggert voted against the bill. I adamantly, stated that "SCHIP should be rewritten or remain dead. I do NOT support an over ride of the veto."

The Rep. office assistant, who answered the phone chuckled, took my name and addy (to verify where I live) and said she would be more than happy to pass my opinion on to Rep. Biggert. She also seemed surprised that I took the time to use the PAC's call against them. This was sooooo easy!!!!!

In my area (SW Michigan) American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is running an ad against my conservative Republican Representative. The ad says that he has government health-care for himself but is denying it to poor children.
A typical weasel smear job on a fine Congressman. All Congressmen have government health-care as part of their jobs. The vote wasn't about denying care to the poor unless $80,000 per year is now poor. Then I saw who ran it, Sheesh, a government union trying to get bigger government. No conflict of interest there right?

QUICK! The party base wants us to actually do like we promised and end the war in Iraq via a "New Direction"...we'd better distract em fast! Hmmm, I know, we'll tell em the world's ending because of corporate greed and polluting Republicans causing Global Warming. No? Tried that? No one bought it but our mouthpieces? Hmmm, ok...I know! We'll tell em that George Bush hates poor people, then we'll modify the SHIP bill so that he'll never sign it, and point the finger at him. Yeah! They'll buy that!

[/sarcasm off]

...looks like the anti-war left's been successfully distracted for now, but for how long? How long before the anti-war left has to come up with an excuse to vote for Sen Clinton (ie, George Bush Lite re the Iraq War)?

Also just noticed this on one of the left blogs I wont link to give them the traffic we see the following

The Blue America/BlogPac campaign to hold the 5 anti-family, reactionary Democrats accountable for backing Bush on his S-CHIP veto is off to a great start. We financed tens of thousands of phone calls to Democrats in the districts represented by Jim Marshall (GA), Bob Etheridge (NC), Baron Hill (IN), Gene Taylor (MS), and Mike McIntyre (NC). The impact of the calls is being amplified by news stories in the local press.

Nothing to see here move along

A coalition of some 30 partner organizations, CAN was established specifically to support the "100 Hour" legislative agenda outlined by the Democrat-controlled 110th Congress which first convened in January 2007. That agenda seeks to "increase the minimum wage, lift the prohibition on Medicare negotiating with pharmaceutical companies for lower prescription drug prices …, cut the interest rate on student loans in half to make college more affordable, and end tax breaks for big oil companies and invest new resources into alternative sources of energy." CAN aims to unite "progressive voices from across America to champion these issues and pass them into law as a down payment on advancing a broader agenda for American families." Prior to the first congressional session of 2007, CAN pressured the Representatives of more than 80 congressional districts, primarily moderate Republicans who had narrowly won re-election, to vote in favor of the "100 Hour" agenda.

The CAN coalition is led by Campaign for America’s Future (CAF), USAction, and Americans United for Change (AUC). CAF co-director Robert Borosage co-chaired CAN’s initial meeting on December 6, 2006. “Democrats ran the most populist elections in memory,” Borosage told those in attendance. “We need to make sure the Democrats deliver on their promises, and that the 100 Hours Agenda is just the first step in creating an economy that works for working people.”
