The Best of Senator Robert Byrd: “This hearing is adjourned suspended!”

Members of the women’s peace group CODEPINK protest behind
officials as Secretary Gates testifies on Capitol Hill.

Jason Reed – Reuters

"This hearing is adjourned!" Byrd shouted, hammering his gavel violently. An aide whispered in Byrd’s ear. "This hearing is suspended!" he corrected. -Dana Milbank, Preaching to the Chorus, Washington Post

I first heard about this while listening to Laura Ingraham. If there’s one thing that I still look forward to in her programming, it’s the Robert Byrd soundbytes.

Remember: As President pro tempore, Senator Robert Byrd is 3rd in line behind Vice President Dick Cheney and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for the presidency.

Pray, it never ever comes to that.

This took place September 26, 2007, with Robert Byrd chairing the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Enjoy!

Commenting on the Code Pink nuts:

There is yet another reason I support the President on the War against Islamic terror: His critics dress and act like morons. When we are supposed debate critical issues, these useless idiots stroll out in pink and behave like drunk college kids at their first party.

THIS is the left’s “base”. THIS is who they pander to. THIS is who will ruin, sorry, run US policy and defense (or lack thereof) if a leftist is elected in 08.

Contrast the Code Pink traitors to the USAF Colonel in front who is trying to maintain composure and professionalism. I have no doubt these useless idiots were harassing him throughout the meeting knowing full well that, despite their “police state” fantasies, this officer could not do a thing to stop them.

    OMG TOO FUNNY!

Sure, anything CODEPINK does is always good for a laugh (albeit a sad and dark one), this was great. Byrd and other dems getting called out for lying to their base. Ahhhhhhhhh….

    SO!

    Whatchya gonna do now DNC?
Gonna bite the hand that feeds you (CODEPINK, ANSWER, MoveON, etc),
    OR
Gonna try and tell them that maybe you exaggerated and spun and that 2006 promise to end the war in Iraq might be a little well, a little premature?

    ANSWER:
At last weeks NBC debate, all three viable Democratic Party Presidential candidates not only reaffirmed that they lied and will continue the war by keeping tens of thousands of troops in Iraq, but WENT FURTHER THAN REPUBLICANS and said that they’d probably keep combat troops in Iraq (not until Jan 2007 as was promised last year, but for another FOUR YEARS MINIMUM!

    BWAHAHAHAAHHAHAAHA!!!

I’m reminded of the Jeff Foxworthy line, “____ you might be a redneck.”

If you voted for a New Direction in Iraq as promised by the Democratic Party last fall…you might be a sucker

If you think that Democrats are going to end the war in Iraq…you’re in denial (see transcript of NBC debate)

If you wear pink, chant, and have a 10,000,000 mile stare…you might be a Democrat

    Here’s an idea:
Maybe it’s time the base of the Democratic Party admitted its leanings, left the party, and supported one of the American Socialist Party groups?

OMG, this is exactly what I was waiting for since last fall!

Popping popcorn to watch it again and again.

C’mon everyone! Let’s go put in some 21st century hippie fashion and go demand an end to the war in Iraq….and let’s see how the Democrats respond.

Honestly, this is funny now. It’s simply too late to force a politically driven withdrawal. Now, all that can be done is for Dems to spin why they aren’t fulfilling their campaign promises (quick! Point a finger before responsibility gets ya!), and for Democrats to sideslip away from their future promises of “ending” the war.

    True colors shining through

Someone (Dirty Harry Reid) should go to jail for allowing the abuse a senile old man (Byrd). If 50% of the American people see this display the democrats will need a new pair of Hsu’s to pull them out of the deep hole.

The sad, senile Byrd is a side effect of the seniority system in Congress. Some of these guys end up being placeholders propped up by their staffs just because no one wants to let go of all the chairmanships and committee posts that have accrued to the position. Strom Thurmond was the same way at the very end (though he was sure a lot better than Byrd when he was the same age).

If you think that Democrats are going to end the war in Iraq…

Yes, you’re definitely right about this. Especially in the case of Hillary Clinton. But it only really works to Republican advantage if a significant chunk of D voters split off and go 3rd party (say they vote for Nader or something). Republicans would actually have more to cheer about if the Dem nominee were seriously anti-war, since it would give them an issue to get traction on. As things stand Clinton isn’t especially dovish, so a campaign against her will have to revolve more around character issues.

It might be really funny, for about 5 minutes anyway,if someone would switch Byrd’s(&/or Murtha’s) “cheat cards” to somebody else’s(like John McCain’s),since it looks like he hasn’t a clue what it is he is reading anyway. Then it would just be sad.

That they haven’t figured out how to put this old horse out to pasture while he still has some dignity left is almost a crime.

Sometimes you just have to wonder how in the world these people can’t see how retarded they look.
