I'm just wondering though is whether much of Thompson's popularity is because conservatives only have a vague understanding of where he stands on specific issues. If he does run, he'll have to take specific positions on a lot of issues, and his record in the Senate will come under scrutiny. I hope he stands up, but suspect that as part of this process some of the shine may come off him.
